Lil Baby received the Quincy Jones Humanitarian Award at the Black Music Action Coalition gala.
On Thursday, the Black Music Action Coalition kicked off its second annual Music in Action Awards Gala. The event was held at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California, and took a moment to honor the Atlanta rapper.
Baby was celebrated for his advocacy against racial and social injustice.
“I honestly didn’t know what a humanitarian was, but as I looked into it and started reading, I understand that I’m actually humanitarian,” Baby said during his acceptance speech. “I just want to say that I appreciate everybody in here because nothing that we doing or trying to do can be done by one person. It’s gonna take all of us to stick together and stay together.”
Earlier this year, the rapper hosted his 3rd annual back to school event in Atlanta. The fest provided more than 3,000 children with backpacks, school supplies, haircuts and other necessities.
In addition, Baby teamed up with Atlanta restaurateur Lemont Bradley to offer 100 jobs to individuals. He also have created a $150,000 “My Turn” scholarship program at his former high school.
