Yesterday on Black Twitter, Black Trauma Movies were trending after a user asked, “Name a black trauma movie you could only sit through once and never watched again.”
Many movies were quite obvious yet in almost every response ‘For Colored Girls’ or ‘When They See Us‘ seemed to make everyone’s list.
One Twitter user wrote: “When I watched When They See Us, I cried for 5hrs straight, I was so hurt angry, & exhausted. Knowing that they intentionally inflicted that horror on children broke my heart in profound ways. The next day, I had to buy a ticket to see Aladdin to reset myself.”
Another Twitter user understood why others would watch When They See Us, but she didn’t understand how they could bring themselves to watch For Colored Girls, she said “At least “when they see us” was for a good reason, why did you watch “for colored girls?”
Other Black traumatic movies listed were: Fruitvale Station, Precious, 12 Years A Slave, Sarafina, The Strange Things About The Johnsons, just to name a few.

One user tweeted about the movie Beloved, and I honestly couldn’t agree more, that movie Scared me for LIFE! He said, “Beloved, watched it once and could not EVER watch it again. I was literally traumatized!”
