Bobby Shmurda was sentenced on Friday, April 7, to between one and a third and four years in prison in connection with a weapon smuggling case at Rikers Island, NBC New York reported. The sentence will run at the same time as the seven years he is already serving after his gang conspiracy conviction, so it does not add time to his stay.
Prosecutors alleged that during a June 2015 jail visit, his girlfriend, Kimberly, pulled a homemade shank from under her bra and tried to pass it to him, and that she was caught. Bobby, whose real name is Ackquille Pollard, and Kimberly were both indicted on charges that included perjury, weapons possession and promoting prison contraband.
The rapper was later offered a deal that reduced his charge to attempted promoting prison contraband, which carried the one to four year range. Per the plea arrangement, the new sentence runs concurrently with the term he is already serving.
After the sentencing, his attorney told reporters, “Pollard has now resolved all of his legal matters and looks forward to getting back with his career.”
