The search for a missing 10-year-old who disappeared last July came to a tragic end with her body’s discovery last week.
Breasia Terrell was reported missing on July 10th in Davenport, Iowa, after spending the night with her 8-year-old brother at an apartment belonging to his father, Henry Earl Dinkins. Dinkins is currently in custody for sex offender registration violations stemming from a 1990 sex crime. Though these charges are not related to Terrell’s disappearance, he has been named a person of interest.
Terrell’s mother, Aishia Lankford, said that the last time she spoke to her daughter was the night of July 9th, when the child texted her to tell her goodnight. The following morning, Dinkins called Lankford to inform her that the girl was gone.
Her disappearance garnered national attention and was featured on Dateline’s “Missing in America” online series not long after her disappearance. Sadly, two fishermen found Terrell’s remains near a wooded area on Monday, March 22nd. They were positively identified as belonging to the young girl on Wednesday, March 31st.
While investigators have not revealed any details surrounding her death, Chief Sikorski assured the family and the community that law enforcement would work diligently to solve the case that has captivated his department for the last nine months.
In a statement, Lankford expressed that while there were no words to describe her grief, she is thankful to everyone who pitched in to help find her daughter.
“Our love for Breasia has gotten us through the past nine months and will continue to see us through as we fight for justice,” the statement read.
