Family drama and wedding planning can be a tricky mix. One bride is getting plenty of attention online after sharing how she handled a last minute guest list demand.
A Reddit user who goes by GirlofBeans shared her story on the site’s Just No Mother In Law forum. She wrote that her fiance’s mother demanded the couple invite about 65 more people, and that the request was not up for discussion. The couple had planned a wedding of roughly 50 guests.
According to her post, the demand arrived two months before the big day, in the form of a detailed spreadsheet of around 80 names. She wrote that only about 15 of those people were already invited, and that her mother in law said some of them had already booked flights and hotels. The bride said she responded by calling everyone and canceling the formal event. She and her now husband then married at a national park with two close friends.
When another user asked how the mother in law reacted, GirlofBeans said there was no big scene. She described the reaction as quiet shock once her mother in law realized she would be the one calling the guests she had added.
Baller Alert could not verify the story, which is based entirely on the Reddit post and its comments. Many commenters reportedly sided with the bride and praised her husband for backing her decision. Others pointed out that guests who had already spent money on travel might have deserved some help covering costs.
