Britney Spears and personal trainer Sam Asghari are now headed to divorce court.
On Wednesday, Asghari filed the documents after fourteen months of marriage. The decision arrived just several days after news spread that they’d separated. The couple initially met in 2016 and wed in June 2022. Asghari cited irreconcilable differences as his reason for walking away. Rumors have swirled that there may have been some infidelity in the relationship, though neither Spears nor Asghari has confirmed this. Earlier this year, there were talks of trouble in paradise, but the two seemingly pushed through it until now.
Despite a strict prenuptial agreement, Asghari is reportedly ready to fight the terms of it, even threatening to release potentially damaging information about Spears unless his demands are met. US Weekly shared that the prenup gives Asghari $1 million for every two years he remained married to Spears with a cap of $10 million after 15 years. He’d previously waived all rights to the singer’s extensive music catalog. His name is also not listed on the deed of their home. Instead, they opted to put it in an LLC. It’s unclear exactly what additional compensation Asghari is seeking.
Spears’ luck with men has been gloomy, to say the least. Her highly publicized romance with Justin Timberlake in the early 2000s became a media frenzy that led to vile headlines being shared about her. She would go on to marry backup dancer Kevin Federline and give birth to two sons, though the marriage ended in divorce, with him attaining full custody. While things with Asghari seemed promising, the two couldn’t make it work in the end.
Asghari broke his silence Thursday, saying “after 6 years of love and commitment,” he and Britney have decided to end their “journey” together.
