Broccoli Recall: Walmart Pulls Marketside Broccoli Florets Over Listeria Concerns

Broccoli Florets

Braga Fresh has issued a voluntary recall for 12-ounce bags of Marketside Broccoli Florets sold at Walmart locations in 20 states due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The recall, reported by Newsweek and confirmed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), affects a product that could pose serious health risks, especially to the elderly, young children, and those with weakened immune systems.

The affected broccoli, labeled “washed and ready-to-eat,” bears the UPC code 6 81131 32884 5 and lot code BFFG327A6. It has a best-by date of December 10 and is no longer available in stores. However, customers who purchased the product may still have it in their refrigerators or freezers.

The recalled broccoli was distributed to Walmart stores in the following states:

Tri-State Region

  • Indiana
  • Kentucky
  • Ohio

Other States

  • Alaska
  • Arizona
  • Arkansas
  • California
  • Colorado
  • Idaho
  • Illinois
  • Louisiana
  • Michigan
  • Montana
  • Nevada
  • Oklahoma
  • Oregon
  • Texas
  • Utah
  • Washington
  • Wyoming

Braga Fresh emphasized that no other Marketside or Braga Fresh products are affected by this recall. Consumers are urged to discard the broccoli and avoid consumption.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause severe illness, particularly in vulnerable populations. Symptoms may include fever, muscle aches, nausea, and diarrhea, with severe cases potentially leading to fatal infections. The FDA advises anyone experiencing symptoms after consuming the product to seek medical attention.
