A Bronx man is facing charges after a fatal fight with a man who authorities say forced his way into his wife’s apartment and attacked her, according to the Associated Press.
Police say the incident happened Monday night in a Bronx apartment building. Mamadou, 61, a Lyft driver, rushed home after his wife called to say a stranger had come into her apartment and was attacking her. According to authorities, Mamadou found the man fleeing toward an elevator and fought with him. Police identified the man who died as Earl, 43. The New York Daily News reported that a tire iron was used in the fight and that Earl later died from head trauma at a hospital.
Mamadou was arraigned Tuesday night on charges that include assault and criminal possession of a weapon. Earlier reports mentioned a manslaughter charge. He was released without bail. His attorney, Anthony Michaels, told reporters his client was “just defending his family.” Mamadou is due back in court on June 27.
