A 22 year old Bronx woman has been charged in the death of her pregnant friend, according to the New York Post and police sources.
Police say Ashleigh is accused of killing 22 year old Angelikque, who was about eight and a half months pregnant, at Ashleigh’s apartment on Monticello Avenue. Ashleigh faces murder and manslaughter charges. She is accused of stabbing Angelikque and removing her unborn baby girl. The baby survived and is reported to be in stable condition at Montefiore Hospital.
According to the Post, Ashleigh had told her boyfriend of six years, friends and neighbors for months that she was pregnant. The Post reports that her boyfriend, Angel, shared sonogram pictures and baby clothes on Facebook, and that one of the ultrasound images appeared to be copied from the internet. Angel is not considered a suspect and was the person who called police. The Post reports that Ashleigh called him and said she had done something very bad before he went to the apartment.
Police sources say the two women had known each other since childhood and had recently reconnected. Angelikque’s boyfriend, Patrick, shared a photo of the baby, who Angelikque had already named Genasis.
Ashleigh was taken into custody at the scene and then to Jacobi Hospital for psychiatric evaluation. Authorities are reportedly seeking a search warrant to determine whether she was ever pregnant. She is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
