Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Williams was stabbed in the thigh at his home in the Avila community north of Tampa on Sunday, March 23, 2014, according to the Tampa Bay Times. Williams was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital and was later released.
Authorities say his younger brother, Eric, 23, is the suspect. The sheriff’s office issued an arrest warrant for aggravated battery with domestic violence, according to reports. A knife was reportedly used. An arrest warrant is an accusation and not a finding of guilt.
The Bucs said in a statement that they were aware of the situation and working with Williams and authorities, focused on the safety and well being of everyone involved. The team declined to say more until it learned additional details.
It was not clear what led to the incident. Williams was already facing misdemeanor charges of criminal mischief and trespassing from a December incident, according to reports.
Baller Alert wishes Williams a quick recovery and will update this story as more is confirmed.
