Busta Rhymes is being sued by a promotion company over a New Jersey show he did not perform, according to court documents obtained by The Blast.
The company, 808 Entertainment, says it agreed with the rapper in January that he would host and perform at an April 21, 2018 event at the Ukrainian Culture Center. The deal reportedly called for him to perform short verses from three songs for $17,000, with $8,750 paid at signing and the rest due before the show.
The lawsuit claims that after the event was heavily promoted, Busta pulled out, saying he had a court obligation the same day. The company says that explanation raised questions because the show fell on a Saturday, and it claims courts are not open on weekends.
808 also alleges it later saw Busta promoting a performance at an event in Scottsdale on the same night as the New Jersey show. The company is seeking $2.1 million for damage to its reputation and business losses.
These are claims from a lawsuit and have not been decided by a court. A response from Busta was not included in the report.
