In 2003, Rapper C-Murder, real name Corey Miller, was initially convicted of beating and fatally shooting a 16-year-old fan at the Platinum Club in Harvey, Louisiana. The judge reversed the decision months later after the judge found that prosecutors neglected to reveal the criminal background of three of their witnesses. In the meantime, Miller was placed on house arrest while awaiting retrial. However, in 2009, Miller pleaded no contest to two counts of attempted second-degree murder stemming from a 2001 incident where the rapper fired a semi-automatic pistol at the owner and bouncer of a night club after being refused entry with his weapon. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison. While in prison for the shooting, C-Murder was handed down a mandatory life sentence for the murder of the 16-year-old fan at the nightclub.

Now, 8 years after Miller’s murder sentencing, the parents of the teen, will be receiving financial compensation for their loss.

The family of 16-year-old Steve Thomas filed a civil suit against the rapper in 2013. It has been reported that Jefferson Parish Judge Glenn Ansardi has ruled Miller to pay $500,000 to each of Thomas’ parents and $150,000 to account for the victim’s suffering. Thomas, who was at the club to participate in a rap contest, was attacked by 15-20 people before witnesses say the No Limit rapper reach his hand into the group of people and fired.
