A couple from California has been ordered to stop their personal efforts to repair local roads.
Alex and Daisy De La Rosa, who work as couriers, were given a cease-and-desist notice by the City of Compton. The couple had started filling potholes on their own initiative to address the ongoing issue that was affecting their work and daily life, including causing flat tires, damaging car suspensions, and even leading to arguments.
Daisy recounted their humble beginnings, starting with their own block: “He first started off within our block in front of our home, and we saw improvements,” she explained. “He said, ‘Let’s do more.’ I worried about our finances, but he insisted, ‘It doesn’t matter. One pothole at a time.’”
As they shared their efforts on social media, they gained support from other community members frustrated with the state of the roads. However, their project was cut short by a letter from Compton’s Community Improvement Services Department, which stated their actions were unauthorized and could potentially endanger public safety and the city’s infrastructure.
The letter emphasized, “Your actions have raised serious concerns as they pose a threat to public safety and the integrity of our city’s infrastructure. It is crucial that all maintenance and repair work on public roadways be carried out following established regulations and procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of our residents and visitors.”
Interestingly, last year, former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger also took matters into his own hands by filling a significant pothole in his Los Angeles neighborhood that had been a nuisance for weeks.
