Cam Newton is speaking openly about a reality he can’t ignore anymore.

In a recent interview with Pastor Jamal Bryant on the Let’s Be Clear Podcast, the former NFL quarterback got real about the personal consequences of having eight children with three different women and never marrying any of them.

Newton is often called out for giving relationship advice while navigating a complicated family structure. But in this conversation, he didn’t dodge the criticism. He faced it head on, especially a moment that forced him to look at himself differently.

He recalled hearing something from Dr. Cheyenne Bryant that shook him: “You created broken families.” That comment hit home.

“That cut deep,” Newton admitted. “I never saw it that way. My kids didn’t ask for this.”

Now a father to eight, Newton said the statement forced him to reexamine how his decisions have shaped his children’s lives. “People say I created broken homes. I’m just trying to fix what I can,” he told Pastor Bryant. “Being a public figure and bleeding in public is tough.”

He went on to explain that while he was raised with strong values, he hasn’t always lived up to them. Still, he refuses to be absent from his children’s lives. “I don’t play about my kids,” Newton said. “I’m in their lives. I stay involved.”

Newton reflected on how being away from his children during his time with the New England Patriots affected him emotionally. It was one of the few times in his career that his priorities felt out of alignment.

When asked why he hasn’t settled down, Newton gave an honest answer. “I want more kids, but I fear divorce more than I want a wife.”

Pastor Bryant challenged him on that mindset, saying love and presence don’t always equal stability. “Somebody’s missing daddy at bedtime,” she said. “That leaves a mark.”

Dr. Bryant wasn’t calling Newton a bad father. She made that clear. But she emphasized that consistency and structure matter. Being hands on isn’t a full replacement for a stable home.

Newton didn’t argue. He acknowledged the criticism and owned it. “I’m just a work in progress,” he said.

Newton reflected honestly on his choices, showing he’s committed to growing and doing better as a father moving forward.
