Cardi B apologizes after receiving backlash for depicted a Hindu Goddess in her new Reebok campaign.

The Bronx native’s new shoe line hit stores tomorrow, but she’s been receiving some negative attention from India after one of the ads for the sneakers showed Cardi B depicted as Hindu Goddess Durga. For those who don’t know, Durga is seen as a Goddess of strength and is most often pictured holding weapons in her eight hands. In Cardi’s photo, the artist is seen holding her new Club C tennis shoe. As soon as Cardi’s mentions started going up, she immediately took the photo down.

Cardi eventually took to Instagram and addressed the issue first-hand. The 28-year-old said she never intended to offend anyone and that she understands how some fans may have felt about the photo.

“When I did the Reebok shoe, the creator was telling me that I was going to represent a goddess that represents strength, femininity, and liberation, and that’s something that I love, but if people think I’m offending their culture or religion, I want to say I’m sorry,” says Cardi. “That was not my intent. I do not like disrespecting anyone’s religion.”

In the video, she wrote out the caption: “Sorry guys .I didn’t mean to offend or disrespect anybody’s culture.I can’t change the past but I’ll be more cautious for the future .Love you guys.”
