Cardi B didn’t just perform at the 2026 BET Awards. She made BIA a prop in one of the most unscripted moments the show has ever produced.
Sunday night at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, Cardi was mid-verse on “Pretty & Petty,” her BIA diss track off “Am I the Drama?,” when a presenter walked onstage and handed her the Best Female Hip Hop Artist award in real time. The line playing when it happened: “Do she even got a BET Award?” A line written specifically to clown BIA for her lack of accolades. Cardi was rapping it at the BET Awards, in front of the BET audience, when BET gave her one.
The crowd erupted. Social media did the rest.
The win is her third Best Female Hip Hop Artist title at the BETs, following back-to-back victories in 2018 and 2019. She came into tonight having already won six BET Awards total, including Album of the Year for “Invasion of Privacy” and Video of the Year and Best Collaboration for “WAP” with Megan Thee Stallion in 2021.
The competition was legitimate. Doechii entered as the defending champion, having won the category in 2025 before adding a Grammy for Best Rap Album and Billboard’s Woman of the Year to her résumé. Doja Cat, GloRilla, Latto, Megan Thee Stallion, Monaleo, Coi Leray, and YK Niece were all in the running.
But Cardi’s numbers made the outcome hard to dispute. “Am I the Drama?” debuted at No. 1, moved 200,000 album-equivalent units in its first week, placed 18 songs on the Hot 100 simultaneously, and made her the only female rapper in history whose first two studio albums both opened atop the Billboard 200. The Little Miss Drama Tour followed, moving 453,000 tickets and grossing $70 million across 35 dates.
Cardi had previously held off on releasing a video for “Pretty & Petty” to avoid overshadowing BIA’s album rollout, saying at the time, “I’ma be nice to you because it’s your album day.”
Tonight, she showed no such restraint, and the BET stage handed her the punchline.
