Comedy legend Carol Burnett and her husband, Brian Miller, have reportedly petitioned a California court to be named legal guardians of their teenage grandson, according to Newsday and The Blast.
Burnett, 87, said in a statement to Newsday that the couple filed because of difficult family circumstances affecting her daughter’s household. She said the guardianship would be for oversight of her grandson’s health, education and welfare, and is not meant to keep him from visiting with his parents.
“We look forward to recovery being the next steppingstone toward normalization and ask for privacy at this time to allow that process to occur,” Burnett’s statement continued.
A hearing on the petition is reportedly scheduled for January 8. Baller Alert has not seen the court filing, and representatives for the family had no further comment at the time of this report.
We are sending love to the Burnett family during this time.
