New details have emerged in the domestic violence case involving Carolina Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy. Hardy was arrested in May 2014 and charged with assault on a female and communicating threats. The charges involve a woman named Nicole, who is not a public figure.
According to court documents filed Thursday, Nicole says Hardy had been angry for a while over a short relationship she had with rapper Nelly, who is a part owner of the Charlotte Bobcats. Nicole says she and Hardy broke up in March and later got back together. In the documents she says Hardy has been very upset about it since March and often becomes suddenly very angry. We have not seen a response from Nelly about the claim.
In her complaint, Nicole describes the night in question as a violent confrontation. She says Hardy returned late after drinking with friends and that he suddenly turned on her. She alleges he threw her, choked her and threatened to kill her. She also alleges he threw her onto a couch covered in firearms and threatened to shoot her if she went to the media. Those are her allegations, and Hardy has not been convicted of anything.
Hardy’s side tells a different story. His attorney, Chris Fialko, says Hardy was not the aggressor and that he called 911 because Nicole would not leave his apartment. Nicole’s attorney, meanwhile, said she was not the aggressor by a long shot.
Hardy was released on bond Wednesday. A judge ordered him to have no contact with Nicole and to attend three Alcoholics Anonymous meetings a week, and on Thursday the judge amended the order to require him to surrender his firearms. His next court date was set for June 27.
Baller Alert will follow the case as it moves through court.
