Incarcerated rapper Casanova has given his first interview since being sentenced to 15 years behind bars. While the New Yorker says he’s “fighting my fight,” he maintains a positive outlook on life as he reflects on what led to his imprisonment.

In his chat with XXL, the “So Brooklyn” star admitted that he hasn’t written any new rhymes. While most incarcerated artists would have plenty of time to tap into their creativity, Casanova explained that his past lyrics manifested his hardships.

“Now, I kind of believe in manifestation more than ever, and I feel like I manifested this on myself because all my songs are jail-related or gang-related or super violent,” he explained. “I kind of manifested it. I believe in the tongue now… I gotta go more positive when I get out.”

Casanova was convicted of racketeering and narcotics offenses related to his alleged high-ranking role in the Untouchable Gorilla Stone Nation gang. Elsewhere in the conversation, he elaborated on wishing he had been more familiar with America’s marijuana laws.

“I think my regret is not knowing the law,” he told the outlet. “And I don’t mean the regular law. I mean the federal law because, state-wise, I’m good. I could’ve promoted marijuana. To clear this up, I don’t even have a marijuana sale. I don’t have a sale. So, off of Instagram, they just threw out a number and said I was selling this amount of drugs. I don’t have a direct sale.”
