Tory Lanez has hired another top-flight attorney as he prepares to appeal his conviction after being found guilty of shooting Megan Thee Stallion in 2020.
According to TMZ, Lanez reportedly retained Jose Baez, who is most known for assisting Casey Anthony, who was accused of killing her two-year-old daughter Caylee and ex-NFL player Aaron Hernandez, who was acquitted of a double murder of two immigrant men in 2017.
In addition to Baez, Snoop Dogg’s 1993 murder trial lawyer David Kenner and Suge Knight’s criminal appeal lawyer Matthew Barhoma have joined his legal team.
Originally, Tory was represented by defense attorney George Mgdesyan, with whom he has since parted ways.  “I don’t do appeals, so we had to get somebody on board to handle the appeal,” Mgdesyan explained.
The rapper’s new legal team made its first court appearance last Tuesday to formalize the transition.  Kenner will file a motion to overturn the rapper’s three convictions by filing for a new trial.
“I look forward to litigating the motion for a new trial,” he said at the hearing.  Adding that: “We’re very confident.”
Last month, Lanez was convicted on all three counts: felony assault with a semiautomatic firearm, possession of a concealed, unregistered firearm, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.
