Apparently, Chance the Rapper and his wife, Kirsten Corley-Bennett, are engulfed in a subtweet battle on Instagram.
The rumored “beef” kicked off when a video of Chance enjoying Carnival a bit too much. The “No Problem” star was seen dancing provocatively with women during the festival, which sent the internet into a tailspin. Think pieces and debates were sparked about whether or not dancing with other people was disrespectful when married. While neither Chance nor Corley-Bennett has addressed the video directly, she seemingly shared an Instagram post about her feelings via a passage from Maya Angelou’s book, “Letter to My Daughter.” The portion she shared raised eyebrows as it spoke about the value of maturing. In the text, Angelou wrote that many people “have the nerve to have children, but they don’t grow up. Not really. They get older.”
“But to grow up costs the earth, the earth. It means you take responsibility for the time you take up, for the space you occupy. It’s serious business,” part of the excerpt read. In the caption, Corley-Bennett wrote, “I hope one day, we all choose to grow up.”
Social media users felt that Corley-Bennett posted this directly towards Chance for his actions, but he didn’t hesitate to throw a few subs of his own. On his Instagram Story, he shared a video of comedian Bill Burr. During the stand-up comedy routine, Burr speaks about the difficulties of marriage. In the video, Burr says, “I love everything about being f*****g married, but I’ll tell you this right now, we do fight a lot. We do argue all the time.”
Now while the couple has not come right out and said they’re going through a rough patch, social media posts would suggest so. Either way, the couple has been together since roughly 2013 and share two children, so an internet beef is certainly not the best way to sort out their marital woes. Hopefully, these two can get stronger with time.
