Chance The Rapper has been quiet on the music but is getting candid about his battle with mental health. Chance was the latest guest to appear on Taraji P. Henson’s Facebook series, Peace of Mind With Taraji.

In the clip, Taraji discusses mental health with Chance and the stigma around it that black men face daily. At the beginning of the video, Chance admits that mental health was not a topic in his household growing up. “Wellness wasn’t something that we knew, you know? There’s probably a ton of situations where people you know, we just wrote them off as crazy, or like they was tweakin’, but they were actually going through a chronic mental health disorder.”

As the clip continues, Chance opens up about dealing with his mental health issues and mentions he has “dark days.”

“Obviously, I deal with PTSD, I saw my friend killed in front of me when I was 19, and I’ve seen people I didn’t know get killed too. You become kind of numb to it like somebody else died last week, but it stays with you, you know what I mean? And you don’t realize until later — like I have lasting effects.”

Chance’s episode is set to air on November 1st on Facebook Watch. The episode will also include a 19-year-old who says he felt embarrassed to ask for help after revealing he is bisexual.
