Charlamagne Tha God recently gave his perspective on Damon Dash’s latest jabs and “Breakfast Club” appearance during an episode of “The Brilliant Idiots Podcast.”

The radio host dissected Dash’s insults, placing them in the context of hip hop’s long tradition of ridicule while also considering what it revealed about Dash’s current state of mind.

According to Charlamagne, public taunts often function as recurring labels within the culture.

“The reason I call them ‘Thanksgiving turkeys’ [is] ’cause everybody eats off them, and you eat off them for at least a week or two,” he explained. While some insults fade after a short period, others remain attached to a person’s identity for years. Dash, he noted, has long been associated with jokes like “Debt Dash” and “Debt Jam Records,” references to his past financial disputes.

Charlamagne acknowledged that he has faced his own share of ridicule.

“You might be walking up on me saying, ‘I’m gay.’ That’s been going on since forever,” he said, adding that the running joke originated with rapper Webbie. For him, the power of an insult lies in how long it circulates within the culture rather than in the insult itself.

When speaking specifically about Dash’s recent interview, Charlamagne suggested there was a clear message behind the mogul’s energy.

“If you asked me, Dame came to prove he’s not broke,” Charlamagne remarked. He stressed that he was not judging Dash’s finances, but he believed Dash is highly sensitive to public opinion. “He really cares about what the internet says about him. Really cares about what other people think about him.”

Charlamagne also linked Dash’s reaction to recent industry news. Reports of 50 Cent securing the rights to “Paid in Full,” a film produced by Dash, appeared to intensify his emotions.

“That really, really set him off,” Charlamagne said, before emphasizing Dash’s deep sense of Harlem identity. “I don’t think there’s nobody on the planet more prideful than people from Harlem.”

In the end, Charlamagne described pride as both Dash’s strength and his vulnerability.

“That’s his Achilles’ heel,” he concluded, suggesting that the mogul’s need to defend his image remains a defining element of his public life.
