On Tuesday, Miles Bridges, a restricted free agent for the Charlotte Hornets, was charged with three felonies for allegedly abusing his fiancée in front of their two children last month.

According to district attorney George Gascon, his office filed two felony counts of child abuse under circumstances or conditions likely to result in serious bodily injury or death and one criminal offense of harming a child’s parent.

The case “included an allegation of causing great bodily injury on the domestic violence victim,” the district attorney’s press release states. Although the children were allegedly present during the attack, the DA’s announcement did not go into further detail about the allegations of child abuse.

In Los Angeles County Superior Court, Bridges is due to be arraigned on Wednesday.

“Domestic violence creates physical, mental, and emotional trauma that has a lasting impact on survivors,” Gascon said. “Children who witness family violence are especially vulnerable, and the impact on them is immeasurable.”

After being detained by Los Angeles police on June 29, Bridges was finally released on a $130,000 bond.

Both the Hornets and the NBA acknowledged being aware of the accusations made against Bridges, with the NBA adding that it is looking into the claims.

“These are very serious charges that we will continue to monitor,” the Hornets said. “As this is a legal matter, we will have no further comment at this time.”

On July 1, Mychelle Johnson, the mother of Bridge’s two young children, shared a series of photos on her Instagram of what appeared to be injuries and a medical report which read: “adult victim of physical abuse by a male partner; Assault by strangulation, Brain concussion; Closed fracture of nasal bone; Contusion of rib; Multiple bruises; Strain of neck muscle.”

She did not mention Bridges by name but wrote: “I hate that it has come to this, but I can’t be silent anymore. I’ve allowed someone to destroy my home, abuse me in every way possible and traumatize our kids for life. I have nothing to prove to the world, but I won’t allow anyone who could do something so horrible to have no remorse and paint a picture of something I’m not. I won’t allow the people around him to continue to silence me and continue to lie to protect this person.”

According to the LAPD, it does not release police reports in domestic violence cases. The West Los Angeles branch of the LAPD is investigating the case.
