A judge has ordered a Chicago man held without bond on three counts of first degree murder in the June shooting deaths of his girlfriend, her mother and her sister, according to prosecutors and the Associated Press.

According to reporting carried by The Houston Chronicle, 25 year old John fled to Iowa after the June 22 shooting. He was arrested the previous Thursday in Burlington, Iowa. The charges are allegations, and he has not been convicted.

The victims were his girlfriend Shonta, 24, her mother Frances, 56, and her sister Jasmine, 27. Shonta died of her injuries on Sept. 5. Frances and Jasmine were pronounced dead at the scene.

Prosecutors told Cook County Circuit Judge Charles Beach II that a videotaped statement from Shonta identified John as the shooter. Prosecutors also said his grandmother told authorities he was responsible.

Assistant State’s Attorney James Murphy said an argument began that morning inside the home, and that John struck Shonta. Murphy said Shonta and the grandmother went outside, and John followed. When Shonta’s mother and sister arrived to pick her up, prosecutors say the argument continued and John pulled a gun and shot all three women.

John and Shonta had dated for about two years and have a son who was 4 months old at the time. Information about John’s defense was not included in the reports we reviewed.

Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the women who were lost.
