Chris Rock revealed that he was asked to host the 2023 Oscars but confirms the award show is nowhere on his radar.
During a tour stop in Phoenix, Arizona, for his comedy tour, the “Everybody Hates Chris” creator addressed “the slap” once again. Though it has been five months since Will Smith assaulted him on the Oscars stage, the actor is still not ready to return as host for the star-studded night. Rock hosted the ceremony in 2005, 2016, and this year, which resulted in a viral moment that shook the world.
Rock joked with the crowd that returning to the Oscars would be like returning to the scene of the crime. In fact, he compared the incident to the murder of Nicole Brown, ex-wife if O.J. Simpson. The 57-year-old said returning to the Oscars was the equivalent of asking Nicole Brown “to go back to the restaurant,” which kicked off the events leading to her 1994 murder alongside 25-year-old restaurant waiter Ron Goldman.
Naturally, social media had much to say about his mention of Brown, whose brutal murder shocked the world. Some people were wondering if people would slam him for the tasteless joke, while others defended Smith for hitting Rock, explaining that his latest joke was slap-worthy.

Rock has not publicly commented on the Brown comment or the public’s opinion of him mentioning the murder victim.
