A woman says she was forced to break her Lent fast because of a McDonald’s ad, and now she is allegedly suing the restaurant.

A Russian Christian woman named Ksenia Ovchinnikova has filed a lawsuit against the most famous burger joint in the world after she claims one of its ads for a burger convinced her to break her Lent fast.

Back in April 2019, Ovchinnikova, was observing Lent – a time when some Christians refrain from eating meat. The woman says that she didn’t break her fast until she saw Mickie D’s advertising a cheeseburger and chicken nuggets.

“When I saw an advertising banner — I could not help myself,” said Ovchinnikova in a court statement. Ovchinnikova was a professional, having stayed true to the guidelines of Lent for 16 years. However, her urges took over her holy spirit. She says ended up visiting “McDonald’s and bought a cheeseburger.”

According to the court documents, she doesn’t want much. The woman says she wants $14 for Mickie D’s allegedly breaking consumer protection law and making light of her religious views and feelings.

“In the actions of McDonald’s, I see a violation of the consumer protection law,” claims Ovchinnikova. “I ask the court to investigate and, if a violation has taken place, to oblige McDonald’s LLC to compensate me for moral damage in the amount of one thousand rubles ($14).” No date for a court hearing has been scheduled.
