Op-Ed: If He Goes Ghost on Christmas, the Matching Pajamas Weren’t Meant for You, Sis

This article is an opinion piece and reflects the personal views and experiences of the author. It does not necessarily represent the opinions of Baller Alert, its staff, or affiliates. All individuals are encouraged to form their own perspectives and engage in respectful dialogue.

Christmas has a funny way of clearing its throat and telling the truth out loud. All year long, people get away with vibes, excuses, and half effort. But when December 25th hits, everything gets real specific. Especially the pajamas.

If you are watching couples online unwrap gifts in matching sets while your man claims he is “not really into holiday stuff,” pause. Because nobody is too grown, too busy, or too cool for Christmas tradition when they are where they actually want to be. Matching pajamas are not about fabric. They are about access.

One of the loudest signs is the lack of an invite. If Christmas morning is off limits but he swears it is just family, understand what that really means. Somebody is there. Somebody planned outfits. Somebody helped decorate. And it was not you.

Then there is the timing. If he is unavailable from sunrise to dinner but suddenly free once the day winds down, that is not romance. That is rotation. The main characters wake up together. Side pieces get leftovers and late-night FaceTime.

Pay attention to how he explains it. If every question turns into you “doing too much,” or he frames your disappointment as pressure, that is deflection. Wanting to be included on Christmas is not asking for the moon. It is asking for clarity.

And let’s talk gifts. If your present feels rushed, impersonal, or digital while he is supposedly “spoiling everybody,” the math is not hard. People show effort where they feel invested.

This is not about shaming anyone. It is about honesty. Christmas reveals where you stand because tradition has structure. There are seats at the table, photos on the couch, pajamas in the drawer.

If there was no space made for you, believe what the holiday showed you. New Year energy does not require staying in a role you never auditioned for.
