Cinnamon Bun Oreos Are Back After 10 Years, And Fans Want These Discontinued Flavors Next

Oreo is spinning the block on one of its most missed flavors, and the snack aisle is about to smell like cinnamon-sugar nostalgia again.

The brand is bringing back its Cinnamon Bun Cookies nationwide for a limited time starting July 6, marking the flavor’s first return in 10 years. The cookie features cinnamon-flavored wafers with cinnamon bun-flavored creme, and Oreo is not treating this like a random drop. The brand called it “a fan favorite” and one of its “top ten most highly requested flavors.”

“This sweet treat delivers the comforting taste of a freshly baked cinnamon bun in OREO Cookie form,” the brand said in a press release, adding that “it offers that bakery-quality snacking experience instantly.” Oreo also said the cookies combine “two beloved treats into one delicious bite.”

The comeback is a major moment for longtime Oreo lovers. Cinnamon Bun Oreos first hit the U.S. in 2016 with cinnamon-flavored cookies and a creme filling inspired by cinnamon bun frosting. After disappearing from U.S. shelves, the flavor became one of those snack-world unicorns that fans kept hunting, importing, and begging Oreo to revive.

Oreo leaned all the way into that demand on Instagram. “10 years of yearning and it’s BACK,” the brand wrote in its June 25 reveal, which showed a cinnamon roll with the words “if you love this…” before revealing the Cinnamon Bun package with “then you’ll love this…”

The return also fits Oreo’s bigger strategy: limited-edition flavors, fan nostalgia, and pop culture snack drops that turn cookies into events. The cookie was introduced in the U.S. in 1912 and has grown into the world’s top-selling treat, enjoyed in more than 100 countries. More than a century later, the brand is still keeping people locked in by remixing its classic cookie with flavors that feel collectible.

Earlier this year, Oreo also teamed up with BTS for a limited-edition purple cookie inspired by hotteok, a Korean brown sugar-stuffed pancake. The cookie allowed the group to share “a taste of their Korean roots” and was tied to “fond childhood memories.”

“The Oreo cookie offers a taste of BTS’s home with a hotteok-inspired brown sugar pancake flavor, while our first-ever purple wafers honor BTS fans,” the cookie description said.

The partnership was also BTS’ first global snack-brand collaboration.

“For Oreo to be the first snacking brand we’ve collaborated with globally is a huge honor,” BTS said in a statement. “We ate them as kids, we eat them in the studio, and now Oreo is helping us share a taste of home with the world. We’re just so proud to add our own chapter to Oreo’s amazing story.”

Fans were also invited to submit “love letters” through a QR code on the packaging for a chance to be “featured on a global stage.”

Oreo’s nostalgia run did not stop there. The brand also launched Firecracker Pop, a golden cookie with blue raspberry, lemon, and cherry flavored creme. The cookie was “inspired by the delicious frozen treat we all know and love.”

But Cinnamon Bun is only one flavor from Oreo’s vault that fans still talk about like a long-lost love. According to Allrecipes, Oreo previously let fans vote through its “Oreoverse” experience on discontinued and past flavors they wanted to see return, including Space Dunk, Maple Creme, Carrot Cake, Fruity Crisp, and Cookie Butter. The same report noted that fans were still loudly campaigning for S’mores and Snickerdoodle.

Red Velvet Oreos also remain one of the brand’s most talked-about retired flavors. Red Velvet first arrived in 2015, disappeared after 2020, and returned for a limited time in 2023 after fans kept begging for it.

That is why Cinnamon Bun’s return feels bigger than a cookie comeback. Oreo has built a full-blown fandom around flavors that come, go, and live forever in screenshots, resale listings, comment sections, and grocery store memories. Fans may be getting Cinnamon Bun back for now, but the real question is simple: which flavor from the Oreo vault is next?
