What started as a tense ringside exchange quickly turned into one of boxing’s messiest viral moments this weekend. Claressa Shields is now speaking out after footage surfaced showing her in a heated confrontation with fellow champion Alycia Baumgardner during a fight event at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California.

The clip spread fast online, with fans replaying every angle trying to figure out exactly what happened between the two stars. While the video quality and crowd movement make it difficult to clearly see the contact, social media instantly split into two camps. Some viewers believe Shields slapped Baumgardner in the face, while others argue she simply knocked her hand away during an aggressive exchange.
The tension did not appear out of nowhere either. Both fighters have built reputations for being outspoken competitors, and women’s boxing has seen growing public rivalries as the sport continues gaining mainstream attention following major pay-per-view success and increased visibility for female champions over the last several years.
Shields addressed the incident directly on X, making it clear she was not backing down from criticism. “Imma continue giving b***hes hell respectfully that lil a** girl said ‘I’ll beat your *ss right now’ after already disrespecting me,” Shields wrote. “Now you classy and playing victim. Can’t go around threatening people.”

After some social media users accused her of throwing a sucker punch, Shields responded again, writing, “I didn’t sneak anybody …. I was right there in her face.”
She also added, “I have plenty of class. She threatened me. Called me all kind of b***hes too.”

With both champions refusing to soften their stance, fans are already wondering whether the viral moment could eventually turn into a sanctioned fight.
