Boxing legend and self-proclaimed “GWOAT” Claressa Shields is officially fed up with the internet’s favorite pastime: disrespect.

The undisputed champion took to social media to respond after TikTok user melaninhipsterr went viral with a video claiming Shields suffers from “Ugly Girl Syndrome.” In the clip, the creator described that as an “ugly” or “fat” woman who becomes ultra-submissive in relationships because she is supposedly undesirable. Claressa clearly wasn’t letting that narrative slide.
Shields addressed the ongoing insults about her looks and the nonstop commentary surrounding her personal life, and she came with the same energy she brings to the ring.
“Y’all keep calling me ugly every single day on my page. In the comments, y’all are saying I’m ugly. I am so tired of it. I am not ugly; I am beautiful. I am the baddest woman walking this earth. I have two Olympic gold medals; I am a two-time Olympic gold medalist. I am the undisputed champion. I am the greatest of all time, the GWOAT. Y’all are just jealous. Y’all have ugly spirits; y’all are the ugly ones. Stop calling me ugly. I am pretty as hell. Look at my face. I am fine. I am gorgeous. I have a man that loves me. I have money. I have success. I have everything. Y’all are mad because you can’t be me. I am tired of this shit every day, the trolls, every day the hate. I am tired of y’all. Get off my page if you think I’m ugly. I know who I am. I am Claressa Shields. I am beautiful inside and out. I am done with y’all. Stop it! I am not playing. I am the baddest, period.”
The Michigan native’s response put a spotlight on how even elite athletes with historic resumes still deal with cruel social media narratives. Still, Shields made it clear she knows exactly who she is, and no viral think piece is changing that.
She also pointed to the gap between online criticism and real life: championships, financial success, confidence, and a relationship she says is full of love. Meanwhile, the people typing from the sidelines are still worried about her face.
