Actor Colman Domingo has been having one heck of a run in recent years. With a number of stellar performances under his belt, such as his role in 2021’s “Candyman” and his latest and now most famous role as Mister in the re-imagined version of “The Color Purple” in 2023, he has quickly soared to one of Hollywood’s most beloved men. Since then, Domingo has been announced as a lead in several forthcoming movies, including the highly anticipated Michael Jackson biopic, where he will play Joe Jackson. Among these new projects is a heartwrenching film titled “Sing Sing.”
The official trailer for “Sing Sing” debuted this week and immediately tugged on the heartstrings of film lovers. The Greg Kwedar-directed drama follows the lives of several inmates who use a prison theater group to escape the reality of their incarceration. Together, the men lean on one another, with Domingo tackling the role of John “Divine G” Whitfield, who is serving a 25-to-live sentence. The movie is based on the real-life Rehabilitation Through the Arts program at New York’s Sing Sing Correctional Facility, which allows prisoners a positive creative outlet.
When the two-minute clip surfaced online, fans of Domingo could not stop praising the actor, whose performance in “Sing Sing” will surely rack up during award season. In particular, many are already predicting that Domingo will take home an Oscar for this groundbreaking portrayal.
