A tragic incident recently occurred and left a 17-year-old Colorado teen injured as he was trying to take homecoming photos.

It all started on September 10th, when the teen and his friend visited a lakeside home in Conifer, Colorado, approximately 35 miles southwest of Denver, hoping to take homecoming photos before the event.  According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the teens had jumped over a fence on the property, attempting to locate and speak with the owner.  Upon discovering no one was home, the teenagers returned to their car to write an apology letter to the homeowner.

However, the property owner and her boyfriend had already called the police on the teens, reporting them for trespassing.  An arrest affidavit stated that Councilman Brent Metz, the boyfriend, approached the two teens as they were sitting in the car with a gun drawn.  One of the teenagers told authorities that he heard a gunshot and Metz saying, “Oh (expletive), my gun just went off.”

Luckily, the victim was still conscious following the shot and told his friend, “I am going to die?”

Metz then tried to assist in aiding the injured teen, but the unharmed friend stepped in and asked the councilman why he fired his weapon.  Nevertheless, the teen was quickly transported to the hospital and is in stable condition.  As far as Metz, the councilman remained at the scene to wait for the police to arrive, who later arrested him on charges including 1st-degree assault, felony menacing, illegal discharge of a firearm, and reckless endangerment.

He has since bonded out of jail and is expected to make his first court appearance on September 17th.
