Scandal actor Columbus Short was arrested Wednesday in Claremont, California, on a felony warrant connected to an altercation earlier this month, according to Fox News, TMZ and other outlets.

The warrant alleges battery causing serious bodily injury. Reports say the incident happened on March 15 at a West Los Angeles restaurant, where Short is accused of striking a man during a dispute. TMZ reported that the warrant had been issued before the arrest. Police and prosecutors have not released many more details.

Short was released after posting $50,000 bail. If convicted, he could face up to four years in state prison. No court date had been announced at the time of this report, and he had not publicly commented on the new charge. His attorney in a separate case did not return calls seeking comment.

This is not the first legal matter in the news for the actor. Short was charged on February 14 with misdemeanor spousal battery and pleaded not guilty. A judge ordered him to stay away from his wife, Tuere, at a March 5 hearing. Court records show she filed for divorce last year and later dismissed the petition.

In June 2010, Short was charged with felony battery after a basketball game altercation. He pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of disturbing the peace and received three years of informal probation.

Short is presumed innocent of the new charge. We will update you as more information comes out.
