Common is spilling the tea on what makes his relationship with actress Tiffany Haddish so successful.
The two have been dating for almost a year, and the rapper-actor claims his ability to communicate better while “listening better to what she has to say” has been the key to their success.
“I think one of the important things about relationships for me has been to really know myself more and love myself and be able to express the things that I want,” Common told People. “I’ve evolved and gotten to that place.” He added, “I listen and take things in and try to do my best to understand.”
Haddish openly revealed their relationship in July 2020, after the couple met while filming “The Kitchen” together in 2019.
She described it as “hands-down the best relationship” she had ever had.
Common told People that he tries to take Haddish’s perspective and ideas on issues “instead of always having an answer” when talking about their communication approach.
He also explained why he believes they are compatible, “It’s about really just being in a relationship where you can grow, and you really support each other’s purpose and vision … I’m making you better, you’re making me better, and you can have fun.”
“I need to enjoy life,” Common said. “So I feel, with Tiffany and I, I’ve been experiencing that, and I’m grateful for that.”
