A Connecticut woman has been charged with deceiving her husband into thinking he had Alzheimer’s disease in order to steal over $600,000 from him. Donna Marino, 63, was arrested and charged in the alleged scheme earlier this week.
Marino‘s husband is the one who reported the “large-scale fraud” to the East Haven police in March of 2020.
According to police, the husband told detectives he was unaware of the alleged theft until March 2019.
Marino is accused of faking her husband’s signature in order to cash his pension payments, Social Security checks, and workers’ compensation payouts, according to Sgt. Gregory Borer.
Marino is accused of depositing the illegally obtained funds into a second bank account for her personal use.
Marino allegedly told to investigators that she frequently utilized the cash for a good cause, handing them over to relatives to assist them to pay for rent, groceries, and car payments.
The wife is currently being held in jail on a $25,000 bond and is being charged with Larceny and forgery.
