A Philadelphia court clerk who asked Meek Mill for money for her son’s tuition has been fired, TMZ reports. A spokesman for the city’s courts also confirmed the termination and said it is a personnel matter.
The incident happened during the rapper’s probation violation hearing. According to reports, the clerk, Wanda, gave Meek a note asking for help with her son’s college education. She wrote, “As a fan of the art, I’m praying that you would be able to help my son.”
Wanda told TMZ that she wrote and delivered the letter, and she says Judge Genece Brinkley had no idea about the note. Meek’s lawyers see it differently. They say the clerk also asked out loud, within earshot of the judge.
Judge Brinkley sentenced Meek to 2 to 4 years in prison for violating probation, a ruling that has drawn criticism. At the time of this report, it was unclear whether the clerk’s actions would lead to a review of his sentence.
