Iggy Azalea’s legal fight with her ex Hefe Wine, whose real name is Maurice Williams, continued this week with new court filings. A court had previously ordered Williams to stop distributing Iggy’s music until a final ruling is made.
In a declaration filed in the case, Williams claims he met Iggy in Houston on June 7, 2008, her 18th birthday, while she was in town to talk to a record label about a possible deal. He says label staff checked her passport to confirm her age and that a group took her out to celebrate that night.
Williams also claims the two moved in together within weeks, and that Iggy researched Texas law on common law marriage and brought it up repeatedly. According to his filing, he believed the two were married under that law, and he says Iggy sometimes referred to him as her husband in emails and used his last name. He attached copies of emails he says came from her.
Iggy has a very different version. She has said she was never married to Williams and has testified that she never used the last name Williams. Williams argues in his filing that her testimony is wrong.
To be clear, everything above is Williams’ side of the story as laid out in his own court papers. These are allegations, no final ruling has been made, and we will keep you posted as the case moves along.
