Couy Griffin, the founder of “Cowboys for Trump” and a New Mexico county commissioner, was arrested for “knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful entry.” Griffin participated in the Capitol Hill riots and had plans to return to Washington D.C. with firearms.
In a video posted on the ‘Cowboys for Trump’ Facebook page, Griffin boasts about climbing on top of the Capitol building.
“No, sir. No, Ma’am. No, we could have a 2nd Amendment rally on those same steps that we had that rally yesterday. You know, and if we do, then it’s gonna be a sad day because there’s gonna be blood running out of that building. But at the end of the day, you mark my words. We will plant our flag on the desk of Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer and Donald J. Trump if it boils down to it,” Griffin said in the now-deleted video.
The riots on Capitol Hill left five people dead and several injured.
According to Newsweek, Griffin told the FBI that he was in Washington D.C. and protested. Griffin insisted that he remained on the Capitol steps and did not enter a restricted area. Video footage produced by media outlets and a video on Griffin’s personal Facebook page tells a different story. The videos show him in a restricted area.
