Royal Caribbean’s Quantum of the Seas

Tropical Cyclone Alfred is causing major disruptions for cruise lines, forcing ships from Carnival and Royal Caribbean to stay at sea as the storm moves toward Brisbane.

With destructive winds expected to reach up to 96 mph, authorities have shut down the Port of Brisbane, leaving ships unable to dock as planned.

Carnival’s Luminosa and Royal Caribbean’s Quantum of the Seas were both scheduled to arrive in Brisbane but have been diverted due to safety concerns.

Carnival has officially canceled its upcoming Luminosa sailing, set for March 6, while Royal Caribbean has scrapped its March 7 sailing on Quantum of the Seas.

Other cruise lines, including Cunard’s Queen Anne, have also been forced to adjust their routes. Passengers on P&O’s Pacific Encounter recently faced rough seas and towering swells as they attempted to return to Brisbane earlier this week.

Meteorologists warn that Cyclone Alfred will bring dangerous conditions, including damaging winds, heavy rainfall, and storm surges. Authorities are advising residents to prepare for potential flooding and power outages as the cyclone makes landfall late Friday or early Saturday.

With the storm intensifying, cruise operators continue to monitor the situation closely, prioritizing passenger safety while adjusting itineraries.

Travelers are urged to stay updated on changes from their cruise lines as the cyclone moves closer to the coast.
