The Cubs ended their long World Series drought, but one Chicago fan reportedly ended the night in the hospital. According to TMZ, a Cubs fan named Alan, 36, was knocked out by an Indians fan outside Progressive Field in Cleveland after the Cubs won Game 7.
TMZ reported that the two men argued as fans left the stadium, and that the Indians fan challenged Alan to a fight. Video of the moment shows Alan being punched and dropping to the ground. TMZ reported he was out cold for several minutes.
Cleveland police said Alan was taken to a hospital with a cut on his mouth and a head injury. He reportedly told officers the argument turned physical and that he did not want to file a report. Police said the man who threw the punch had not been identified, and no charges were reported.
Alan told TMZ, “I survived an assault just like my Cubs survived being down 3 to 1.”
It is a reminder that rivalries are best settled on the field. We hope Alan has a quick recovery.
