D. L. Hughley has no intentions of reconciling with Mo’Nique!
On a recent episode of The Jason Lee Show, the comedian discussed the current state of his family in light of Mo’Nique’s viral interview with Shannon Sharpe. Hughley revealed that Mo’Nique’s widely circulated discussion on Club Shay Shay reignited tension between him and his eldest daughter.
“Here’s what I will say, whatever was said wasn’t for me,” Hughley began. “Whatever was said opened up a wound in my daughter that we’re arguing about right now. I’ve never had money all my life, but the love of my children I’ll always have. And when something jeopardizes that, I could never forgive you for it.”
He continued, “I love my children, and to feel like I couldn’t protect them and then that plays out over and over — it’s something I won’t forgive you for. My daughter is so angry with me she hasn’t spoke to me in weeks.”
The division Hughley refers to originated from Mo’Nique discussing Hughley’s daughter’s sexual assault in 2022, alleging that Hughley failed to safeguard his daughter during that time. The dispute arose in 2022 during a disagreement over a Detroit comedy show in which both were involved. Amidst exchanges, Mo’Nique asserted that the 61-year-old could criticize everyone except “the name of the person that violated his daughter.”
Shortly after, Hughley’s eldest daughter, Ryan Nicole Shepard, replied to Mo’Nique’s insensitive remarks with a detailed comment, characterizing the comedian as “deliberately mean and hurtful,” and using words such as “poisonous” and “disgusting” to describe her behavior.
