A Massachusetts father is being held in jail after police say his 5 year old son brought a small bag of cocaine to his kindergarten class in Holyoke.
NBC News reports that Lt. Jim Albert of the Holyoke Police Department said the boy showed the bag to his teacher on Thursday at Lawrence Elementary School. According to Albert, the boy said he puts the powder in his mouth and that it makes him feel like Spider-Man, and the bag was stamped with Spider-Man images. The teacher told the principal, who called police.
Police called an ambulance and took the boy to the hospital as a precaution. Authorities said they do not believe he swallowed any of the drug.
Officers then went to the family’s home, where police say they found the boy’s father, Benny, asleep with 38 bags of cocaine and 70 bags of heroin in the house. Albert said Benny also had an outstanding warrant on narcotics charges and now faces additional charges. NBC News reported that the boy and an infant who lives in the home were taken into the care of child services.
Benny is due in court on Wednesday, November 20, when a judge will decide whether he can be released on bail. No response from him was included in the early reports, and the charges are allegations that have not been proven in court.
