Dallas Mavericks guard Luka Doncic was the victim of a brazen home robbery Friday night.
Approximately $30,000 worth of jewelry was stolen from his residence, marking another high-profile case in a series of burglaries targeting professional athletes. Dallas police responded to the scene around 10:30 p.m., and an initial investigation revealed that suspects broke in through the master bedroom window between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m., according to a police report obtained by the Dallas Morning News. Doncic’s business manager, Lara Beth Seager, confirmed that no one was home at the time, and the player later filed a police report.
Mavericks coach Jason Kidd commented on the situation ahead of the team’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday night.
“I’ve reached out to Luka and talked to him after that incident,” Kidd said. “He’s fine. Glad no one got hurt.”
This burglary follows a string of similar crimes targeting athletes. In October, Kansas City Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce had their homes burglarized, with $20,000 in cash stolen from Kelce’s residence. Additionally, NBA players like Mike Conley Jr. and Bobby Portis have also fallen victim to theft, with Portis offering a $40,000 reward for the return of his stolen items.
The NFL and NBA have issued security advisories following the growing trend, warning that perpetrators may be using team schedules and social media to target athletes’ homes. The FBI has linked many of these incidents to transnational South American theft groups, often exploiting unoccupied homes with alarm systems left off.
