Dame Dash has been catching a lot of heat lately, between diss tracks from longtime foes and public pushback on several of his business and art ventures. Instead of sitting with it, he went to Instagram and announced that he is starting a record label.
Dash posted the announcement himself, writing that he was proud to introduce his latest venture and that Dash Records is actively searching for recording artists, videographers, engineers, producers, makeup artists, stylists, and digital marketers. He told creatives to email their portfolios to Dashrecordinglabel@gmail.com. He made it clear that the label is open and he wants people who are hungry.
This is a significant move for someone who helped build one of the most influential record labels in hip hop history. Dame was at the table when Roc-A-Fella was shaping the sound of an era, and walking away from that chapter did not mean he walked away from the music business entirely. Dash Records looks like his attempt to rebuild something on his own terms, without partners, without compromise, and without the corporate layer that complicated things for him the first time around.
So far, the label is still in its early stages. There are no signees announced, no releases on the calendar, and no indication yet of what direction the roster will take. What exists right now is the announcement, the email address, and Dame’s name attached to it, which in certain corners of hip hop still carries real weight.
Whether he brings in established names looking for a new home or builds from the ground up with newer artists is a question that has not been answered yet.
With a track record of turning raw talent into household names, it’s no surprise that Dame Dash is ready to do it all over again — this time entirely on his own terms.
Jay-Z: The Blueprint Begins At Roc-A-Fella
Dash co-founded Roc-A-Fella Records in 1994 alongside Jay-Z and Kareem “Biggs” Burke, establishing an independent label to launch Jay-Z’s music career after major labels repeatedly rejected his demo. Under Dash’s management, Jay-Z’s debut album “Reasonable Doubt” sold 43,000 copies in its first week and eventually went platinum.
Kanye West: Signed Before The World Was Watching
Dame Dash was instrumental in signing Kanye West to Roc-A-Fella, taking a chance on him at a time when few others saw his potential. It’s a move that would change the course of hip-hop history.
Cam’ron: Street Authenticity With a Business Mind
Dash’s mentorship extended to Cam’ron, helping foster a roster that emphasized street authenticity and business acumen in the early 2000s hip-hop landscape.
Memphis Bleek: Roc-A-Fella’s Loyal Foundation
Memphis Bleek was among the artists whose career was launched through the Roc-A-Fella machine, staying closely tied to the label’s identity throughout its golden era.
Juelz Santana: Dipset’s Rise Through the Roc
Juelz Santana was another name whose early career was shaped by the Roc-A-Fella infrastructure and the cultural moment Dame Dash helped build in New York hip-hop.
