Dame Dash is speaking out to shut down rumors that he once tried to get with Beyoncé. During a sit-down with The Art of Dialogue, the Roc-A-Fella co-founder made it clear that a romantic connection was never on his mind because of when they first met.
“I wasn’t even thinking about Beyoncé… she was a kid to me,” Dash stated. He explained that because he knew her as a teenager, he could never separate that image from the woman she became. For him, the age difference and his first impression created a permanent boundary. “I couldn’t unsee her as 16,” he added. “That wasn’t on my list… those girls were kids to me.”
At that time, Dash says his attention was on a completely different social circle involving older, high-profile figures in the fashion industry. He was looking for women who were already established and moving in the same elite spaces as he was. I was running behind… Naomi Campbell… it was different,” he noted, contrasting his lifestyle with the members of Destiny’s Child.
While he was firm about his lack of interest in Beyoncé, he shared a different take on Kelly Rowland, confessing that he viewed her in a more adult light. “Kelly Rowland… I’ve actually seen her and been like, I would mess with her,” he said.
These comments come as Dash continues to provide his perspective on the early days of his career and his partnership with Jay-Z.
By setting the record straight, he is distancing himself from the narrative that he ever tried to step in between the Queen Bey and his former business partner.
Dame Dash says he never hit on Beyoncé but admits he found Kelly Rowland attractive.
