Former NFL star Darren Sharper is facing new legal trouble as details from a New Orleans police report became public. The accusations are allegations, and Sharper has denied wrongdoing.
According to an arrest warrant application released March 6, 2014, Sharper and a friend, Erik Nunez, allegedly told others that they had sex with two women in a New Orleans apartment on September 23 without the women’s knowledge or permission. The two women told detectives they were too impaired to remember all of what happened and that they never agreed to it. Police said other witnesses told them Sharper and Nunez admitted to the acts, and that a friend who came to the apartment reportedly saw Sharper in his underwear.
Prosecutors have said they intend to charge both men with two counts of aggravated rape. Nunez, 26, turned himself in to the Orleans Parish district attorney’s office on February 28.
Sharper, 38, turned himself in to Los Angeles authorities last week and is jailed there. He pleaded not guilty to rape charges in Los Angeles, and his attorneys say any sex with his accusers was consensual. He faces an extradition hearing on Friday, March 7. Reports also say Sharper is under investigation in Arizona, Florida and Nevada, with no charges filed in those places so far.
Sharper is presumed innocent unless he is convicted in court. We will keep following the case.
