Darryl Strawberry Says Marijuana Is A Gateway Drug And It Shouldn’t Be Legalized For Pain Management: “Young People’s Lives Matter”

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Marijuana is a dangerous gateway drug that can ruin lives, according to Darryl Strawberry, and he knows first hand because it happened to him.

In a recent interview with TMZ, the former MLB superstar shared his thoughts on the recent push to legalize marijuana for pain management in the wake of the opioid crisis. While many athletes are for the legalization, the 56-year-old says it’s the wrong thing to do for the sake of our youth.

“Most people don’t understand marijuana is a drug,” the 56-year-old said. “It’s the beginning. Starting people off when they’re young and then it leads to everything else.”

“The crisis that we have in America is spiritually broken. The system is broken and the pharmaceutical company has flooded the gates with the opiates, which are killing our young people today. And most young people start off with marijuana. It’s a gateway.”

Last year, Strawberry opened up about his cocaine addiction, which ultimately ruined his career in the MLB, revealing his faith in God and his loving wife helped him kick the habit. But now, with the increase in support for the legalization of marijuana, Strawberry has made it clear that weed is not the way to go.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

“I started marijuana when I was young, 14, 15-years-old and it led me to everything else. I just hope that we can understand young people’s lives matter.”

When asked his thoughts on pro athletes’ push for the legalization for the simple fact that it’s “better,” Strawberry said he just doesn’t agree.

“That’s man-made excuses,” he said. “Anything that alters your mind will change your mind forever.”
