Daycare worker fired

A Sanibel, FL daycare worker, has been relieved from her childcare duties for reaching out to one of her pupil’s parents by way of a magic marker on the child’s stomach.

Heather Chisum’s Facebook post went viral on Monday after she sought advice through the platform on whether or not she was overreacting for being “furious” about how the employee behaved. The post has since been shared over 30,000 times and attracted more than 22,000 reactions as of midday Wednesday.

According to the concerned mom, when Chisum went to change her 3-year old son Milo’s diaper, she found a message from her son’s teacher, in permanent marker reading, “Mom, I’m out of diapers. Pls, read my report.”

Chisum said The Children’s Center of the Islands usually sent home a daily report of how his behavior was throughout the day or how many diaper changes he had. Still, she confessed she is a “single mom with two very young children” and didn’t read the report prior to Milo returning to school.

Chisum said she attempted many times to wash off the permanent marker to no avail. But to make matters even worse, she said this is was not the first incident.

The school’s director, Cindy Carter DeCosta, told NBC affiliate WBBH, “It was a breach of our professional ethics on the part of the teacher. We are reviewing protocols already in place to ensure that nothing like this occurs again.”
