Delta Air Lines has revised its employee uniform policy after a recent viral post.

The situation unfolded after an X (formerly known as Twitter) user made a post, expressing outrage over two flight attendants wearing Palestinian flag pins. In response, Delta changed its uniform policy to prohibit employees from wearing pins representing countries or nationalities unless it’s the U.S.

“We are proud of our diverse base of employees and customers and the foundation of our brand, which is to connect the world and provide a premium experience,” the airline said. “We are taking this step to help ensure a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment for all.”

Before the announcement, a Delta spokesperson responded to the tweet, claiming that the employees were breaking company policy and expressed empathy for the individuals who were “terrified” by the pins. Despite the response being deleted, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) was able to capture a screenshot of the interaction and shared it across social media platforms.

“What happened with Delta is just the latest example of anti-Palestinian racism,” Edward Ahmed Mitchell, the national deputy executive director of CAIR, said. “And my hope is that this incident will begin to slowly, slowly move the needle in a different direction.”

Since then, Delta has apologized for the statement and shared that the employee responsible for the post has been terminated. Nevertheless, the new policy rules are expected to be in effect starting on Monday.
